Trump and Rubio Lead Final Push for Gaza Peace Agreement

President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are leading a final diplomatic push to secure a peace agreement for Gaza, with Rubio announcing the deal is “90 per cent” complete. The US-led initiative has reportedly been accepted in principle by Hamas and is now focused on logistical finalization.

The core of the proposed deal is a swap: all Israeli hostages held in Gaza will be released in exchange for an Israeli military withdrawal to the “yellow line,” a position held in mid-August. This is seen as the crucial first step to end the two-year conflict.

Beyond the immediate ceasefire, the framework includes a commitment to future planning. Rubio stated that Hamas has agreed “in principle” to discussions about the governance of Gaza after the war, a significant move toward long-term stability.

President Trump has praised the agreement as a “great deal for Israel” while issuing a severe threat to Hamas, warning of “complete obliteration” if the group clings to power. He has also confirmed that he has the backing of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the plan.

As the final details are ironed out, the world watches to see if this concerted US effort will succeed. Rubio is confident that the seriousness of all parties will be confirmed “very quickly” in the concluding technical talks.
