Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) have agreed to hold a parliamentary vote on Tuesday to elect the successor to outgoing Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, lawmakers confirmed on Friday.

The two parties also decided that the extraordinary Diet session will run for 58 days, ending on December 17, providing time for policy discussions and cabinet formation following the leadership transition.

The upcoming session is expected to formally confirm the new prime minister and outline the government’s priorities for the remainder of the year.
