In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam and Japan have reinforced their dedication to enhancing cooperation between their respective ruling parties and legislative bodies. This significant dialogue took place between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Both parties acknowledged the substantial progress of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and expressed a mutual interest in intensifying political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges. This commitment follows the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Vietnam earlier this year, marking a pivotal moment in the bilateral relationship.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc emphasized the robust economic growth of Vietnam and highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts in administrative reforms. He suggested that Japan could play a vital role by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, which would be instrumental in aiding Vietnam’s institutional development. Furthermore, Ngọc advocated for increased collaboration in key areas such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. He also underscored the importance of strengthening ties between the parliamentary friendship groups of the two nations and fostering more exchanges among young lawmakers.
On the Vietnamese side, there was a call for continued support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan. In pursuit of facilitating closer ties, Vietnam proposed the simplification of visa procedures as an initial step, with the long-term aim of establishing visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens. This proposal is indicative of Vietnam’s desire to make travel and exchanges more accessible, thereby enhancing people-to-people connections between the two countries.
Hagiuda Koichi conveyed Japan’s enthusiasm for expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in the realms of advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. He assured that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and its parliament remain committed to promoting exchanges and joint initiatives that align with these objectives. This support from Japan is seen as a crucial element in advancing mutual interests and addressing global challenges through shared technological and environmental goals.
