Japan’s political landscape could soon see significant changes in how the country approaches national security, as the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is set to propose a new surveillance system. This initiative would permit administrative wiretapping for national security objectives without the need for a traditional court warrant. The proposed surveillance system marks a departure from the existing judicial wiretapping framework, which is currently confined to specific criminal investigations.
