The increased funding comes amid heightened discussions in the United States concerning the regulation of advanced AI systems. Anthropic has voiced the need for more stringent safeguards to prevent AI technologies from becoming threats to critical infrastructure such as hospitals, power grids, and financial networks should they be misused. The company clarified that the funds are earmarked exclusively for public education and AI policy initiatives, and are not to be used for political campaign support.
This announcement coincides with the launch of Claude Mythos Preview, Anthropic’s advanced AI model focused on cybersecurity, which is initially accessible to selected users across government, technology, and financial sectors. The company is advocating for tougher oversight of powerful AI systems, emphasizing the necessity of mandatory independent testing and enhanced government authority to block the release of models that do not meet established safety standards.
