In a significant move to enhance its international connectivity, Saudia, the flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, has unveiled plans to initiate direct flights connecting Riyadh and Tokyo from November 2026. The service is set to operate thrice weekly from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, marking a strategic partnership with the Air Connectivity Program and the Saudi Tourism Authority.
This development is poised to bolster tourism, trade, and business interactions between Saudi Arabia and Japan, facilitating greater international access to the Kingdom. The introduction of this route aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, a strategic framework aimed at transforming Saudi Arabia into a global hub for tourism and logistics, as well as the National Aviation Strategy and the National Tourism Strategy.
Efforts to promote this new route are supported by collaborations with partners in Japan, with the Saudi Tourism Authority keen on crafting enticing travel packages to attract more Japanese tourists to the Kingdom. The launch of this direct flight not only underscores the growing ties between the two nations but also enhances the Kingdom’s appeal as a destination for international visitors.
Additionally, the timing of this new connection is set to facilitate travel in anticipation of the AFC Asian Cup 2027, an event that Saudi Arabia will proudly host. This move is part of a broader strategy by Saudia to expand its reach, as the airline currently services over 100 global destinations and is in the process of enlarging its fleet with 112 new aircraft.
